COMPETITION TRAINING GROUPS
OVERVIEW
STORRS AQUATICS believes that no two swimmers are identical and that, for an athlete to reach his or her full potential, training must be tailored to his or her age and ability. In service to this belief, the team assigns athletes to different training groups with different prerequisites and objectives.
GROUP ASSIGNMENTS
Group assignments are made at the head coach's discretion. Each group has a set of prerequisites. Factors considered in assigning swimmers to each group include not only the group prerequisites but the personal qualities of each athlete, including but not limited to the following:
- •Maturity
- •Commitment
- •Effort
In addition, the head coach may consider the size and age composition of the groups and reserves the right to modify the requirements for each group and to construct them as she sees fit. The head coach also reserves the right to reassign any athlete to another group at any time if he believes the change is in the best interest of the athlete, groups and/or team.
PRACTICE ATTENDANCE
STORRS AQUATICS is a premier competitive swimming program. As such, progressively higher levels of commitment are expected of athletes as they progress through the training group hierarchy. Commitment is measured, in part, based on practice attendance. Each group has practice attendance expectations. The precise expectations are contained within the group descriptions .
Attendance expectations are minimum goals the team sets for swimmers. Each athlete's level of commitment is a factor the coaching staff considers in evaluating athletes for training group assignments and other special events and privileges. Because commitment is correlated with success, all athletes are encouraged to exceed the defined expectations outlined for each group.
Arrivals and Departures:
Inherent in all attendance expectations is the understanding that athletes will arrive early, be ready to swim at the designated times for practices, and complete each practice. Late arrivals and early departures not only impact the swimmer's personal growth and development as an athlete, they are disruptive and disrespectful to the other swimmers and coaches. Arrivals and departures will be tracked.
High School Swimmers:
High school swimmers competing for their school are expected to train with their club group two times per week during their school seasons following the rules of CIAC.
MEET ATTENDANCE
As a competitive swimming team, participation in meets is an integral part of each athlete's development and of the team's growth. Accordingly, all athletes above our "transitional" group have a specific meet attendance expectation for each season. Again, expectations are minimum goals the team sets for members. As with practice attendance, commitment to meet attendance is a factor the head coach uses in evaluating athletes for training group assignments and other special events and privileges.
